THE OPENING ROUND OF THE ASTON MARTIN ASIA CUP DRAWS DRIVERS FROM ACROSS THE REGION AND BEYOND.
The grid for the inaugural Aston Martin Asia Cup's opening race at Shanghai on 25 May will boast drivers from across the region and beyond in a packed weekend of motor sport action. The series, in partnership with Michelin, Dura, Racing Logistics International, Auto Media China and Graham, is the first ever Aston Martin one make series in the world.
As part of the C1 Celebrity race weekend at Shanghai, which will feature international movie star Jet Li, the AMAC Aston Martin Vantage N24s are sure to thrill drivers and spectators alike. The V8-engined, 410bhp cars have already demonstrated their enviable pace and reliability when five AMAC drivers enjoyed a 'warm up' race in the Asian GT Championship earlier this month with great success. The 16 turn Shanghai International Circuit, with both its tricky corners and back straight which is almost three-quarters of a mile long, is an ideal track for the N24s to show off their all-round ability.
With drivers from Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Australia lining up to compete in the Championship which awards the winner with a stunning 2009 FIA GT4 Aston Martin drive, the competition is sure to be close and exciting. The field will include an intriguing mix of experienced drivers and former Champions to young stars of the future. From Australian endurance stalwart Peter Boylan to Singaporean rookie Nasrat Lucas Muzayyin to Japanese Sportscar specialist Kota Sasaki, the attraction of the Aston Martin Asia Cup for all drivers is plain to see.
Series Director, Ian Geekie is excited at the prospect of the opening round saying "It is wonderful to see such a varied group of drivers recognise the potential of this exciting new Championship. The AMAC technicians and organisers are dedicated to offering the drivers the very highest level of support as they drive one of the most enjoyable and reliable racecars available today, the Aston Martin Vantage N24. These beautiful machines and the thrilling racing they offer are sure to be a big hit with the spectators too."
The race weekend sees the Aston Martin Asia Cup practice and qualify on Saturday 24th May with two 12 lap rounds on Sunday 25th May.
