Sociology of SportThese pages cover some of the areas I found interesting whilst studying the sociology of sport culminating in writing my MSc dissertation regarding safety in Formula One Motor Racing 1950 -1997. I am very thankful to my friends who've put up with me throughout my studies and many of them have asked to see my dissertation but been put off by the sociology tag and so the idea for a webpage was sown. I've tried to make these pages informal so as many people as possible can find them useful and interesting. It's not a carbon copy of my dissertation or a definitive sociological analysis but hopefully these pages give an idea of what my studies entailed. Sociology is a dynamic subject so my thoughts are but one very little corner. If you did feel some of the points raised may help you in any studies please remember because these pages are informal and sometimes anecdotal they are not presented as a piece of work for assessment would be and that must be considered if referring to them. If you have an interest in sociology, at whatever level, I hope the ideas in these pages spark some interest and questions as well as answers about looking at sport sociologically. If you have an interest in motor racing I hope you enjoy this rather different look at the sport
